KEVIN SWINDELL FINISHES SECOND IN 13TH ANNUAL GOLD CUP
Memphis, TN -- Aug 21, 2005 --

Going into Saturday’s Gold Cup at Huset’s Speedway, Kevin Swindell felt really good about his chances to win.  Coming up less than half a second short at the finish line, Swindell was pleased, but disappointed at the same time.  While racing through lapped traffic the entire race with no help from caution flags to bunch the field, he came from half a lap down to the back bumper of the leader racing down to the checkered flag.

“I just needed a few more feet and we would have won it,” said Kevin.  “I was really pleased with my race tonight and the way my car was set up.  My dad has let me make most of the decisions on the set up and I have enjoyed being able to make the calls from what I am feeling in the car.  It is very satisfying to know you can make the right changes and come out with a great finish.  Tonight it just took me too long to catch the guy who started on the front row.  The lapped traffic was crazy.  In one corner, I passed four cars at once.  It was that kind of race."

Labor Day weekend will see Kevin return to the pavement where he has won five out of seven races with the United Sprint Car Series.  He will race his sprint car at Lanier Speedway on Saturday, September 3, and try to continue his steak of track records along with another feature win.
